The Luxury Design & Craftsmanship Summit took place in Oporto on the 20th and 21st of June. Here is a recap of the best features. The event sets to raise awareness of design’s biggest pillar: craftsmen. All the most luxurious, exclusive and unique furniture pieces have this common denominator. Patience is what allows people to achieve greatness, and is required in all things, such as painting displayed below. The opportunity to see the creations live is wonderful and raises awareness about the talents. The hand-painted tiles are a legacy of Porto’s rich history of arts and craftsmanship. The Peak Start of Day 2 at the Luxury Design & Craftsmanship Summit – It was a great start of Day 2 of the Summit. The event started early in the morning with another amazing artisan showcase where fifteen artisans of fifteen traditional crafts display their amazing work! A panel of actors from the industry gathered to discuss the stakes of handwork in the luxury furniture industry and how brands can make it thrive. Marco Costa, Boca do Lobo’s Creative Director and CEO, talked about the importance and helping these talents survive. The firm has multiple lines of furniture that uses materials such as wood, metals and glass, providing an opportunity to craftsmen to apply their talent. How do we improve and support these talents? The panel debated the evolution of the design industry and how the design cultured impacted the craftsmanship, surrounded by pieces from Boca do Lobo’s workshops.
