The Luxury Design & Craftsmanship Summit took place in Oporto on the 20th and 21st of June. Here is a recap of the best features. The event sets to raise awareness of design’s biggest pillar: craftsmen. All the most luxurious, exclusive and unique furniture pieces have this common denominator. Patience is what allows people to achieve greatness, and is required in all things, such as painting displayed below. The opportunity to see the creations live is wonderful and raises awareness about the talents. The hand-painted tiles are a legacy of Porto’s rich history of arts and craftsmanship. Working on wood with hands a few tools only is what make these pieces unique and soulful. The carving techniques used have been perfected for centuries until today. Nowadays, the biggest challenge for luxury brands is to maintain their sense of exclusivity and authenticity throughout the growing age of technology. The desire to reveal the behind the scenes process of their exclusive pieces is a strategy already seen on some of the most respected brands in the industry. Design events are a way of doing so. The Peak Start of Day 2 at the Luxury Design & Craftsmanship Summit – It was a great start of Day 2 of the Summit. The event started early in the morning with another amazing artisan showcase where fifteen artisans of fifteen traditional crafts display their amazing work! A panel of actors from the industry gathered to discuss the stakes of handwork in the luxury furniture industry and how brands can make it thrive. Marco Costa, Boca do Lobo’s Creative Director and CEO, talked about the importance and helping these talents survive. It’s a very beautiful piece, with all the tiles, glass details and the interior in gold leaf. “ METALWORKING Nowadays the metalworking can be truly artful to conceive a wide range of large-scale structures, assemblies, to the most delicate jewelry. Since early, Boca do Lobo has no restrained to use different processes and tools to shape new designs, by giving to our pieces rough yet powerful expression. FILIGREE Filigree is the most delicate technique used to work precious metals, usually of gold and silver. It is an age-old and detailed jewelry expression in which skilled artisans painstakingly solder tiny beads and twisted threads to create striking artistic motifs, suggesting often an exquisite and intricate lace-like pattern. “Doing such large filigree sculptures is really hard, and those are the ones we enjoy the most.
